A police officer is responsible for taking the life of a bicyclist last week in Pembroke Pines.
The detective was riding around in his unmarked police vehicle when the man tried to cross the street on his bicycle. Several eyewitnesses reported that the bicyclist did cross the street in an illegal and haphazard manner, taking the blame off the detective. When fellow officers arrived on the scene, they assessed the situation and determined that the detective was not visibly impaired. It is unknown, however, where he was heading to that night.
Shortly after the detective struck the man, he pulled his car around in traffic to block oncoming vehicles. Unfortunately, the 47-year-old male bicyclist lost his life at the scene of the bicycle accident.
