The city of Los Angeles will soon fight a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Reggie Doucet.
According to police reports, then 25-year-old Doucet, was running around naked in the street after refusing to pay his cab fare. The responding officers attempted to subdue him and claim that he tried to attack him, prompting the shooting that led to his death. The lawyers for Doucet's family, however, believe that something different happened.
They believe that Doucet took the cab all the way to his apartment but did not have enough cash on him. He stripped off his clothes as collateral to run inside and officers mistook his actions to be violent. The lawyers add that since the officers were not responding to a violent crime, there was no reason for them to withdraw their weapons in response.
