Woman Seeks $900,000 in Damages from Kmart

One woman hopes to recoup $900,000 in damages for her slip and fall accident in a Kmart last year.

Celestine Burrell filed suit against Kmart Corp. in the U.S. Bankruptcy court in New Orleans for an incident that occurred at the Mandeville location. On Sept. 10, 2010, Burrell claims that she was waiting in line when she slipped and fell on a pool of water between the checkout counters. The leak was in plain view of the cashiers who did nothing to remedy the situation.

She is now asking for $900,000 to cover medical expenses and lost wages, along with physical pain and suffering, loss of earning capacity, mental anguish, disfigurement, emotional distress, scarring and disability, interest and court costs.
