Driver Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter for Biker's Death

After spending her life working with criminals, a probation officer from a county in Florida now finds herself labeled as one.

Two months ago, the 32-year-old female was driving on a local street when she looked away from the road for a moment. When her eyes returned to the roadway, she saw that her vehicle had veered off the street directly into the path of a bicyclist. With no time to swerve back onto the road, she hit a 56-year-old male bicyclist, causing fatal injuries. Although he was wearing a helmet, his injuries were too severe for doctors to remedy. Police say the victim later passed away while receiving treatment at a medical facility.

After investigating the bicycle accident, officers charged the woman with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. At this time, it is uncertain whether she will be allowed to continue working as a probation officer for the county or if she will be put on paid leave until her case has been settled.

Bike accident victims who suffered injuries, pain and trauma may have the right to file a personal injury lawsuit to seek monetary damages from negligent third parties. However, before such a suit can be filed, they will need to contact a Broward County bicycle accident attorney that can help them initiate legal process.
